String Quartet | 10'
Work commissioned by the Vila-seca Music Board and the Gerhard Quartet, to whom it is dedicated. Written in a tonal and figurative language, it incorporates elements of minimalism without fully adopting its aesthetics. The title and character of the work are inspired by a reflection on
by André Comte-Sponville. The quartet moves between two sound planes that contrast and integrate, evoking the character's path through the labyrinth of life, in a search for freedom and serenity.
Premiere: Gerhard Quartet
Flute, B♭ clarinet, violin, viola and cello | ~12'
A work inspired by the poem There's a certain Slant of light by Emily Dickinson. Composed in four movements, the piece does not literally illustrate the text, but rather dialogues with its images and atmospheres: winter light, internal wound, absence and dissolution.
Premiere: Ensemble Des Équilibres, Madrid, 2025
Piano and cello | 6'
A work written during a historical moment marked by isolation and uncertainty. The title reflects the emotional state that inspired the composition, with an intimate and expressive language.
Premiere: Kiev Portella (piano) and Jean-Baptiste Portella (cello)
Marimba and piano (version for violin and piano) | 10'
Work written by order of the Tarakon Duo, structured in three movements. The first, of a simple and melodic nature, contrasts with a more energetic and virtuosic third movement. The title refers to the fragments that memory selects, transforms or forgets. Arranged for violin and piano.
Ensemble (flute, clarinet, bassoon, violin, viola, cello, double bass, piano) | 10'
A work for octet written in July 2013, based on the play between coincidence and structure. Through a neotonal language, Sincronies constructs a network of melodic motifs that meet, overlap and transform. The work is divided into three sections: an introduction that presents the materials; a more intense and dense central part, where the melodies dissolve within a harmonic mass; and a finale where the motifs reappear in counterpoint before fading away.
Premiere: Carnegie Mellon University School of Music (Pittsburgh, USA), 2014
Violin and piano | 10'
A work in three movements that draws different tones of the Mediterranean landscape. From the stillness of the first movement to the lyricism of the third, they are sensations linked to light, the sea and memory.
Premiere: Marian Márquez and Josep Maria Ferrando, Tarragon Auditorium
Violin and percussion | 3'
A short piece written on commission from the Tarakon Duo. The dialogue between violin and percussion is built from fragments, repetitions and silences, as if each musical gesture hesitates before completing itself. A work of contained character, with a sober and fragmentary language.
Two marimbas | 6'
Work written by order of the Tarragona Composers' Association. The piece plays with crossed rhythms and textures that expand like concentric circles in the water. The title refers to a rainy day, more like an atmosphere than a literal image.
Premiere: Duo Kontakte, Tarragona Auditorium, 2008
